The Sun & Moon meet in 9 degrees of Scorpio on November 1st at 5:46 am PST/8:46 am EST, initiating a cycle of profound transformation in the ways we experience and approach intimacy. This energy shines a light on the link between our subconscious fears and desires, and asks that we face this awareness with courage by owning rejected parts of ourselves and stepping into greater alignment with our soul’s truth.
Not only does this New Moon officially close the eclipse portal, it is also the last lunar cycle (in our lifetime) where Pluto (Scorpio’s modern ruler) will be in the sign of Capricorn, signaling the end of an era we have collectively been in since 2008. This energy is deeply cathartic as Pluto sits at the final degree of Capricorn, opposing Scorpio’s other ruler, Mars, in Cancer - for the last time in our lives. This energy is bringing old cycles, wounds and emotions into the light to be witnessed, transformed and integrated. It’s an invitation to recognize where we are letting our past wounding subconsciously rule over our ability to experience the intimacy we crave. By courageously looking within, we can hopefully choose differently going forward, acting from a place of empowerment.
This lunation asks that we share our truth by taking accountability over our deepest desires and fears, acting from a place of integrity, logic and intuition. Fear and desire are two seemingly opposing forces that drive much of human behaviour. However, they’re both linked to the spectrum of motivation - at the heart of which you can find courage. By finding the courage to become aware of how these concepts show up for you, you can choose what you permit to motivates you; moving closer to your desires or away from your fears?
The Scorpio archetype is the alchemist
This energy is associated with the deep subconscious realms of the human psyche and shadow work. At the same time, Scorpio represents intimacy because it is representative of the energy we share with others. It is the archetype of soul-depth connection - one that can only take place when we have first met the depths of our own soul and subconscious realm. While Scorpio desires to be seen and met at this depth, it’s also often deeply afraid of it - afraid of being too much, feeling too much. It is this deep intricate dance between fear and desire. It’s fearful that others may not be able to handle its intensity or depth, because the world has unfortunately often shown it as much, when it has opened itself up to people or places who were unable to handle its depth of feeling.
Pluto & Mars Ignite Transformation
Pluto, Scorpio’s modern ruler, is connected to all death and rebirth processes. Through death & decay, he bestows upon us the wealth of new life. From the ashes, the phoenix rises anew. The processes of death and birth have one thing in common: they are both irreversible - there is no going back when Pluto’s force is present.
As the further planet from Earth, representing the unseen world, Pluto energy highlights all that we suppress or hide, usually out of fear or shame. I feel that Pluto energy is best described in the famous words of Carl Jung: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” This is because Pluto shows us where we have given our power away by suppressing our shadows - and therefore are creating our reality from beliefs that are not in alignment with our true selves. By shining a light on these parts of self, Pluto asks us to reclaim our power by stepping into our wholeness, owning our darkest, subconscious parts. During these last few weeks of Pluto in Capricorn, this energy asks us to break free from old conditioning and ways of creating security for ourselves that keep us divorced from our power and out of alignment with our truth.
As Mars opposes Pluto, our desires and our soul truth may be at odds with one another. In the watery depths of Cancer, the god of war stirs up old emotions and hurts, asking us to courageously witness these parts of self.
Highlighting the final degrees of the Cancer/Capricorn axis, this energy is about balancing intuition and logic when handling matters pertaining to intimacy and attachment. At the same time, Cancer and Capricorn are the axis of the mother and father, respectively. This is the energy of security - both emotional and physical. With this energy highlighted with the Sun, Moon, Mars & Pluto, we’re talking about breaking tradition, re-writing old belief systems, and healing generational trauma by being willing to see the unseen. By lifting the veil on subconscious ways we attain a sense of security (whether material or emotional) for ourselves, we can hopefully re-write our beliefs and behaviours to form more secure attachments within and without ourselves moving forward. Mars being in Cancer offers us opportunities to see how unhealed wounds from childhood can lead us to make choices that keep us stuck in dysfunctional patterns that limit us. Meanwhile, Pluto in Capricorn urges us to recognize our tendencies to obsess over material security as ways to avoid confronting emotional pain from our past.
